HUNGARY: The big splash in Orfű
Written by Laszlo, 29 September 2019
We have not gone completely quiet here, but we have most definitely relocated to China! So, we are living in this massive country now and we will be staying in Hangzhou until the end of June 2020. Hopefully we will be able to explore more areas of China and find lots of signs before our mission comes to an end here. Make sure you follow us and keep an eye on our news-flow, so you will not miss out on anything that we see and experience whilst we are here. We have also created a vlog series (called 'A Pig in China) to document our life here in Hangzhou - to check out our videos, click here.
But now, let us talk about something else. Something that happened earlier this year. If you follow us on Twitter and Facebook, you know that it was a busy Summer for us; visited many places here and there in Europe, but especially in Hungary. There are hundreds of photos waiting for me to go through and get them all nicely organised and ready, and eventually to share them with you. I have finally arrived to the first bunch of photos! These were taken in July when we all went for a day out in Orfű.
Orfű is a relatively small village (about 1000 people only) that is situated at the heart of Baranya county and it lies about 20 km away from Pécs. Due to its beautiful location and setting, over the past few decades, it has become a famous tourist destination. The main attraction is definitely the large lake which is perfectly suitable for swimming. When we were there, the air temperature was quite hot, so jumping into the lake was a sort of well-deserved treat. I could not miss out on this opportunity! The temperature of the water was simply amazing.
I have gathered some photos here now of Orfű, focusing mostly on our day out and how enjoyable that was for all of us. So, in the end, there is hardly a photo of the actual village; instead, the trip included a long walk during which we saw a lot of 'nature' (flowers, insects, plants, trees), the famous Orfű outlook tower, a crazy golf place, and the 'big lake' (which is called Lake Pécsi). And, of course, we did the sign hunt which was one of the most random experiences ever in the history of our sign hunting 'career'. As Katie, Viki and I walked across a random forest where there was no path at all, we luckily managed to find our way straight to the sign. Lucky us, but we were the most surprised when suddenly, out of nowhere, out of blue, two of our dear friends, Péter and Ernő, turned up. They were on their way to another place, but they, of course, did not miss out on the opportunity to pose with us in front of the sign. Still, what a small world!
The photo of the Orfű sign, therefore, will always be a great memory to cherish and talk about beside a couple of pints of lager. But there are some other great shots to remember too. Have a look at these. Enjoy!
