Pig
He is pink, he is a pig, his name is simply ‘Pig’. We just call him ‘The Pig’. He has two small pointy ears and two wonky eyes that makes him look funny. He is a bit disabled as he does not have legs, but the Pig is full of character and he is just as smart as we are, oink oink! According to the children we teach, the Pig is also very cute. No surprise they always want to grab him and pull his face off!
The thing is that we moved to China in August 2019 and the Pig moved here with us. We live in Hangzhou, which is the capital city of Zhejiang province. Just like anywhere else we have been and we have lived so far, we carry on sign hunting here, trying to visit as many new places as possible. And the Pig comes with us everywhere we go and in his expressive way and own style, he helps us preserve our memories in a series of videos. He is available on YouTube and runs his own travel diary.
The Pig is still developing his own persona, but he definitely is evolving fast and becoming more and more aware of the world that surrounds him. We are, of course, very happy about him being so open-minded and let him say and discuss everything that bothers him.
A Pig in China - The video blog series
We have had Pig for a long time but he spent most of his early time in Hungary in our old family house doing pretty much nothing. One day, we realised that he had a lot of potential, so moved him with us in the UK and started singing Christmas songs. His prime-time came in 2019 when we moved to China and Pig became a science teaching assistant instantly loved very much by all children and teachers. Pig now has a well-established name in our school and a little bit beyond that.
By moving to China, we made him the official face to our China vlog series called “A Pig in China”. Since its initiation, the series has gone through a lot of changes and development where even Pig himself had to change and had to find his own character. We have done a lot together with Pig and expecting to do even more in the future. You can follow his journeys on YouTube.
Pig definitely has a large fun-base, but he is most popular among grade 3 and 4 primary school children.
Time after time, we ask our kids to draw Pig. In June 2022, the task was to draw Pig in science themes they learned about. The overall outcome was fantastic. We have made a little video about the best drawings, which you can watch right here, but if you would like to see a selection of photos, simply carry on scrolling down.
