WALES: At the mouth of the Ystwyth: Aberystwyth

During the recent months, I have been in and around Aberystwyth a couple of times. There are plenty of things to see and to do. Weather-wise, well, I cannot comment much on the standard British climate: oceanic/marine, so you either like it or not. But you can have fantastic times and this is why all my recent journeys in and near the Cambrian Mountain reminded me of the great times and sunshine that I had in this remote location in western Wales when me and my fellows visited it back in 2012 and in 2016 respectively.

Aberystwyth is a remote location, but it is not absolutely isolated. It is a good two hours drive from Shrewsbury, but one can also take the train which is about the same length in time as driving. Aberystwyth is situated near the confluence of the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol, but it is only the latter one that actually passes through the town. It is a historic market town, the administrative centre of Ceredigion, home to Aberystwyth University, and an important tourist destination. The National Library of Wales is also located in this town.
